GFCI poor wiring choice

While testing the receptacle on the front porch, I turned off this GFCI receptacle in the garage. If the house was occupied , I am sure someone would be upset to loose their internet connection.  Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt  (GFCI) is an important safety feature. It detects when an unusual current is being drawn and shuts off. It will prevent a person from being electrocuted. GFCI is necessary in wet location like exteriors, garages, kitchens, and bathrooms.

When GFCI protected receptacles are wired the same as standard circuits they can be a nuisance. The example of this house highlights the issue.  Verizon should also have picked a better receptacle to use also. I always advocate for GFCI reset to be within the same room and not on an appliance you want on continuously (like the internet or a chest freezer). If you experience nuisance tripping the problem can be resolved with slightly different wiring but always keep the GFCI protection.
